WHERE WE GET OUR DATA

Between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2001 the Real Rate Survey collected a total of 1017 rate reports.

Of these 949 were submitted by contractors working in the United States.

We eliminated the highest and lowest 5 rates. This left us with 929 rates which form the basis for the following analysis.

Our Rates are collected using the form at www.realrates.com/rate_sur.htm

Our ISP statistics show that the major sources of new visitors to our site are links from many job boards includng Monster.com, GeoWeb, The Computerjobs Store, and JobOptions.com. We also receive many new visitors each day who find us through index searches on Google.com, MSN.com and Yahoo.com. Our site shows up at the very top of the list of results for a search on "rate survey" or "consulting rate survey" on Google.com and Yahoo.

Traffic this year was very strong for the first quarter with the Realrates.com site getting from 10,000-12,000 unique visitors a week. By summer, as the job market slowed down and job sites consolidated, we saw our traffic drop to an average of 9,000 unique visitors a week where it remains at year end.

Rate contributions are far fewer than what we received last year. We attribute this to the realities of the dot com meltdown and the general shrinking of the market for computer consultants in the U.S. We note that this year, unlike last, our salary contributions are way below our rate contributions, again reflecting the dot com meltdown and wide spread layoffs. By the end of the year we were seeing a steady increase in the number of contracts being reported as contractors, once again, are being brought in to take the place of fired employees as is typical during a recession.
